    I personally liked the article and thought it made some great points. I haven’t read the book it’s critiquing so I’m not sure how valid the critique itself is, but would love to get the opinion of someone who’s read the book. I agree with the main thesis of the article (as I understood it): no one should speak for others. DiAngelo should not speak for people of color (please correct me if that is not the best term), nor should she label all white people (is that the best term?) as originally and basically racist. I think most of the time when someone makes a broad statement about a group of people (e.g. all whites, all blacks, all men, all women) it is false, because any group of people assembled based on one characteristic is likely to vary in all others.

        @work:

        • Continuing work on an upgrade to one of our products such that it can appear in four places on a page instead of one. The basic framework is there, but I have a feeling that successfully implementing this feature will be a case-by-case basis :(

        @home:

        • In a bit of a rut with $$-motivated side projects - reading Start Small, Stay Small by Rob Wailing atm, really enjoying the developer perspective (and being told again and again the importance of market/marketting lol).
        • Trying to re-start my journal (a bullet journal (for now)) to assist my scatterbrained, forgetful mind. Not sure how effective it will be, but trying hard to keep with it.
        • Preparing for our trip to Paris this summer, trying to finalize lodgings and tourist things to do. Looking for many recommendations!
        • Creating a new DnD character for our campaign, thinking a paladin, maybe the grandson/daughter of one of my other characters (think the historical/hereditary aspect might be kinda fun).

            Joining this thread a little late! Working on job applications! Looking to switch into something that blends social impact, data science/analytics, international work, and entrepreneurship. I know it’s a lot to ask for…maybe I’m being naive? But I’m trying to stay optimistic. Baltimore is a cool city with a lot of amazing people. I don’t mind staying here for another few years, but I would want to do something that is more impactful.

              This article is a little old, but having lived here for 5+ years, it still rings true. Not to say Philly is without it’s own problems, but here for positive news!

                  Been focused on food (cooking) experiments and music projects - taking a break from engineering stuff as I get plenty of that from work. What’v’e you been up to?

                    Sorry to hear about all the housing issues, really some of the most stressful & unnecessary issues always seem to arise from that realm of our lives eh?

                    Really neat idea on the voice chat memos - how does that work? Via SMS, FB, WhatsApp?

                      Hi all,

                      Redux was, in short, amazing and rejuvenating. Didn’t get much sleep, but I feel better about my job after redux because my manager and I have been trying harder to be communicative.

                      This last week though has been a little rough. My roommates and I are all moving out of our current house and the landlord is trying to keep our security deposit and demanding that we pay an insane amount because he claims we didn’t communicate through proper channels. Besides that things are going well!

                      A few Fellows and I also started a group chat where we send voice memos to each other as updates; easier than texting and faster than texting (plus we can practice our podcast voices). That’s been pretty fun! (If you’re interested, shoot me a text)

                      In other news, excited for new Baltimore fellows to join us! Missing all 2018ers terribly and hoping to aggressively visit VFA cities in the upcoming year.

                                    This week will be getting back into the normal scheduling for me. Amazon also decided to force an update to our infrastructure by Aug 4th, so dealing with that as a team.

                                    @Home

                                    I leave for Maine next Thursday, anyone been to Acadia National Park? Also gonna promote vfanews.club, and try and teach a friend some basic coding tmrw. Trying to process Redux still too <3

                                      @home At the beach with family and friends for a first real vacation and I hate that I’m slightly antsy about not “catching up” while not in the office… Finished my book club book and loved every fictional non-educational second of it. Little fires everywhere. Leading a yoga rooftop class for a Jewish community group in sTL next week.

                                      @work Things are fine. I am now focused on “space and connectivity” investments. Trying to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible about space startups and why anyone would chose to devote their days and weeks and lives to developing a product that they may never see fully come to fruition.

                                      Interesting but challenging. Often times overwhelming but I guess that’s supposed to be a good thing.

                                          @Work Developing an internal platform to replace one we use from a 3rd party. Hopefully this will be +1 why not to fire me.
