My friend’s plant wasn’t getting enough light in the morning because she would forget to open the blinds. To solve this I created Lucy, a wall-mounted robot that twists the blinds open at 6am and closed at 6pm. The core of the setup is an Arduino Uno connected to stepper motor, we’ve coupled the “blinds rod” to the stepper shaft with some duct tape, styrofoam, and a wood wheel. Lucy is powered by two cables plugged into the wall, one USB for the board and one 9V DC for the motor. It features an integrated real-time-clock(RTC) chip that allows the computer to keep time even in the event of a power interruption.
